About This Issue

The Summer issue of Behavioral Health News, produced in collaboration with the New York State Office of Mental Health, focuses on maternal mental health with an emphasis on reducing stigma and expanding access to compassionate, equitable care. It highlights perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, internalized stigma, and the many barriers to support before, during, and after pregnancy.

Through personal stories, clinical insights, and systemic perspectives, contributors explore challenges like racial inequities, trauma, substance use disorders, and workplace pressures. They offer solutions including peer and doula support, integrated care models, workforce training, and technology. Together, these articles reframe maternal mental health as a public health priority that demands transparency, compassion, and cross-sector collaboration.
